Who decides I need to renew WHMIS for my employees?
There are three people who decide if and when you need to renew WHMIS. The first person is the employer. The employer should cover initial training and renewal. It is up to the employers’ discretion to decide when and how often they need to renew employees WHMIS training, providing they are meeting health and safety regulations for their workplace.
Safety inspectors may also step in and decide whether or not an employee needs to be retrained based on their demonstrated knowledge, and the health and safety regulations.
A contractor or client may also require your employees who are working in their workspace to take or renew their WHMIS training to ensure that everyone in their workplace is meeting the requirements for health and safety training.
